Back in June I was invited to support an equestrian charity event called “The Rockstar Academy”. With some notable equestrian specialists acting as judges, riders of differing experience, some with young horses and a range of Junior riders the day was going to be a challenge. Nearly 60 riders attended on the day so it was all go from 09:30 hours, with riders being split into groups and taking on 4 opportunities to ride Cross Country under the watchful eyes of Yogi Breisner and Ben Way, Show Jumping watched by Seb Hughes, Dressage watched by Simon Laurens and myself to offer Sport Psychology support. Every Rider opted for the Sport Psychology, meaning I had between 3 & 4 minutes with each rider, a real challenge if ever there was one! Some Riders have subsequently come back to me to follow up our discussions and to help them get even more from the sport they love. There was also some Horse and Country Celebs in attendance to talk about their experiences in the “Blue Chip Allstars Academy” shown on Sky Horse and Country TV. David Morris, Ceri Davies and Josh Noakes all spent time talking with attendees and their support for this event was very well received
It is a real challenge to work with 60 mounted riders on a single day and I know some riders were disappointed (or did not get to see me at all), but I hope subsequent communications have helped change that.
Yes it was a huge ask, especially mentally, but I thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people. To all the sponsors, supporters riders and of course the catalyst for this event, who herself is currently undergoing Chemotherapy, Jennifer Olivier, I not only salute but applaud you all.
